I’m Philip, a photographer and artist from Brighton.

Although I have photographed a variety of subjects, I’m happiest when I’m meeting new people and creating portraits. A few years ago I started a street portrait project and, after some time away, I’ve now returned to my long-term assignment.

The Project

In my project I use analogue, film cameras to create portraits of those visiting, working or living in the North Laine area of Brighton.

The North Laine area is well known as having a cool, chilled and boho vibe and I love it. There are so many independent businesses here, from coffee shops and vintage clothes emporiums, to bookshops and small restaurants. It is truly a special part of Brighton.

I use a vintage film camera for my work as I love analogue photography. Film has a characteristic look to it and I love being intentional about the portraits I create.
